On Saturday, September 26, 2020 the Department of Veterans Affairs arranged for a mobile health care team to make a stop at the Stand Down House and bring mobile health care services to our Veterans. The Stand Down House provides temporary housing for Veterans in Palm Beach County.

The day was deemed a huge success as everyone who was screened for COVID-19 tested negative and many of the Veterans seen received the flu vaccination as well as those who needed it were immunized against Hepatitis A.
“The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center is proud to partner with the Stand Down House and the Salvation Army Center of Hope to offer a hand up to Veterans experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity,” said West Palm Beach VA Medical Center Homeless Program Section Chief Steven Tillman. “Bringing health care and services to Veterans where they are is important to ensuring this vulnerable population gets the care they need. Community partnership is vital to bringing our goals to fruition and we couldn’t be more excited to expand services to Veterans beyond our medical center.”
Many Veterans that return from serving in the active military suffer from PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, physical limitations, mental illness and addition. Stand Down offers a transitional living program that offers these Veterans clean and comfortable living quarters, psycho-educational group sessions, individual counseling, life skills training and job readiness classes. This short-term assistance program focuses on recovery so Veterans can transition to a stable future.
