Veteran’s Day Has Special Meaning to Me
Michael Garcia – FHLC/Stand Down Board Member, Owner/Broker Weichert Realtors
It is heartbreaking to see so many of my follow Veterans homeless or forgotten, and in need. A little over 3
years ago I was introduced to Stand Down (an initiative of Faith*Hope*Love Charity), and I have been striving since then to help them raise funds to help our homeless and disabled Veterans here in Palm Beach County.
I was honored to be asked to be part of the Executive Board to assist the organization with fundraising activities and finding new ways to provide the needed support. I host an annual car show and this will be our 3rd annual event on Saturday, December 11th located at 7109 Lake Worth Road in Lake Worth. We will have cars on display, raffle drawings and a whole lot of fun while lending a helping hand to those who sacrifice so much for us. Last year we raised over $4,000 and this year we are working toward the goal of doubling that amount.
A lot of our cruisers are Veterans as well and are always bringing items that we take down to the home site. We also fill 100 stockings each year to give a little cheer for Christmas. It is the least I can do to give back to all those that have sacrificially served our Country and are now in need themselves.
I hope there will come a time when we no longer have Veterans who have been forgotten, but until then my company and I will always try to help any way we can. Please join with me to not leave any Veteran behind!
